Kelimutu National Park comprises the hilly region of Mount Kelimutu, which boasts three lakes with water of varying colors. Due to volcanic activity millions of years ago, the lakes in the Kelimutu area have three distinct colors. However, these colors constantly change over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Moni Village to the Kelimutu National Park Gate is only a 30-minute walk. If you want to enjoy the sunrise at Lake Kelimutu, we recommend staying in the Moni area. Interestingly, Labuan Bajo and Ende City are still part of the same landmass, with a travel time of approximately 12 hours by land transportation. You might consider continuing your trip to Labuan Bajo after exploring Kelimutu Lake and other tourist destinations in Ende.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                Lake Kelimutu has three lakes: Tiwu Ata Polo, Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai, and Tiwu Ata Mbupu. Each lake has a unique color. Lake Kelimutu is also known as the Three-Colored Lake. Meanwhile, locals believe that Tiwu Ata Mbupu is the white lake where their deceased parents gather. This lake measures 4.5 hectares, and Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai is the blue lake which, according to locals, is the resting place of the souls of deceased young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                The largest of the three lakes, covering approximately 5.5 hectares, has a strange moss-green color when viewed from above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                Finally, Tiwu Ata Polo Lake is red. Locals believe it is the abode of the spirits of those who have died or committed crimes while alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                The smallest of the three lakes is approximately 4 hectares in size and 64 meters deep. The color of the third lake frequently changes over time. Some scientists believe this color change is caused by gases released by Mount Kelimutu's eruptions. However, others believe it is caused by the refraction of light on the crater walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
